About the Photographer

Derek Powazek graduated from the University of Santa Cruz with a BA in PhotoJournalism in 1995. He's the recipient of a Silver Award from the Society of News Design and has been shooting since his dad gave him a 126 camera for his birthday when he was a kid.

Derek is married to the lovely and talented Heather Champ. They live in the Cole Valley neighborhood of San Francisco with a grumpy cat, two nutty Chihuahuas, in a house full of plants named Fred.

Derek is available for hire to shoot events, portraits, pets, and just about anything with enough light on it.

About the Camera

I recently replaced my Canon Digital Rebel with a Digital Rebel XT. I love the camera and recommend it highly.

About the Site

Ephemera is powered by Movable Type. Special thanks to Brad Choate for his marvelous MTEbmedImage Plugin, Matthew Haughey for the instant messaged advice, and especially Heather Champ for more love and inspiration than any web geek deserves.

About the Name

Ephemera means temporary. Short-lived. Ephemeral things don't last very long. Like a May Fly or the split second a shutter is open. Or web pages. Or us.
